On behalf of AMERICAN LEGION
POST 35 in the Hamptons, I want to take this moment to thank all of
those who came out in record numbers on Memorial Day to honor those
who have given their lives for our country and our cherished freedom.
It seems that each year since 9-11 more and more people have taken the
time to come and participate in our Memorial Day Observances. It gives
us all such great hope to see so many young faces, as well as the adults,
come out in droves to see and listen to the guest speakers and the performances
by the singers and musicians. I've said this in the past, and I will
say it again. It is like being inside a Norman Rockwell painting on
Memorial Day on the Seacoast. From the 'Lady of The Sea' beach observance,
to Hampton Falls Weare's Park, from the quaint little parade in the
picturesque town of North Hampton, to Hampton proper. You came, you
listened, and by the sounds of things, you took something from the day.
Something very special. Most importantly, you Remembered why we honor
this day. And that is the key word. Remember. All of the Veterans from
Post 35 want to thank each and every one of you for remembering our
fallen comrades. We won't forget you for your sincere thoughtfulness. We especially want to thank the following: Starting with the Beach Observance: Samantha Thayer for a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem. Sam Scarpino for playing TAPS. The Beach Parks and Recreation Division. Jerry Lonergan for a stirring performance of God Bless America. The Hampton Police and Fire Dept. The Hampton Falls Observance we thank the HF Police and Firefighters. And young Sam Shaw for playing the battle Hymn of the Republic on his Trumpet. The North Hampton parade and service, we thank the NH Police and Fire fighters. The North Hampton School chorus under the direction of Mary Oliver. The Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Finally the Hampton Parade and High Street Cemetery Observance. We thank the Town Selectmen who marched in the parade, Chief Jamie Sullivan HPD, Chief Hank Lipe HFD , the many, many Packs and Troops of Scouts, both Boys and Girls and all the Scout Leaders. The Faith Community Church members. The Hampton Mounted Police, the WHS ROTC platoon, Amy Strong on the Sax for playing America The Beautiful. Andrew Price. Christina Hamilton and chorus. And a very special Thanks to: The WHS Band under the direction of Tony Cyrus for a absolutely moving rendition of our National Anthem at Hampton Falls, North Hampton and Hampton. The WHS USMC Jr ROTC Color Guard under the direction of Major Michael Petruzziello for doing all FOUR Observances! The Post 35 Firing Squad under SSgt. George Masten. The Barvenick Brigade. A special thanks to Rev. Deborah Knowlton of the First Congregational Church of Hampton who spoke at all four observances. Master Chief Randy Shoe of the US Navy for escorting our guest speaker at each of the four stops that day. Our guest speaker Natalie Healy. What an amazing woman. Truly one of the most poignant and heartfelt speakers we have ever had the honor to listen to on Memorial Day. She put a face to this most sacred day. Her son NAVY SEAL Dan Healy was a hero who was killed in Afghanistan last June while trying to rescue members of his team who were outnumbered by Terrorists. Anyone who heard Natalie speak on that day, will never forget who Dan Healy was. Which is the exact reason why we honor this day. Thank you Natalie for sharing your personal thoughts and feelings about your son Dan and all the others from all the wars who lost their lives. Finally, I want to thank all my fellow Veterans. I have the most respect for all of you. My brothers and sisters in arms. Our Seacoast community loves you. Thank you again for remembering our fallen heroes. God Bless you all and God Bless America. Respectively, Ralph G. Fatello, Commander Post 35 |

This website was created and launched on November 11th, 2002. The symbolic launching the site on Veteran's Day is because of the strong Veteran's Community here on the Seacoast. The website is dedicated to the late Maurice Brown, the best Post Historian we've ever had. Maurice passed away this past August. He knew this site was coming and was looking forward to seeing it. Now, it seems it is only fitting that we dedicate it in his memory. This site is for you Maurice. The website will be another way to communicate with the members. Much like that of the newsletter, the website will be a valuable tool to all the members who have computers and enjoy this type of activity. We will post information such as schedule events such as monthy meetings to annual dinners and other points of interests for post members. We encourage any and all feedback, and welcome anyone wanting to contribute to this site. After all, it is your site Legionaires. Please feel free to get involved. Again, the site is in the infant stages as we have only begun to scratch the surface of what will surely become a fun way to stay in touch with your Post. Thank you and God Bless America! |
